This talk will introduce the work of Sam Kim and his practice at the intersection of graphic design, independent publishing, and collective platforms. Drawing on his experience in Berlin with Common Imprint, his collaboration with Graphic Magazine, and the recent launch of the BookBooK Festival, Sam will explore how editorial projects can create spaces of encounter, research, and circulation for the Asian independent scene.
He is the founder of Common Imprint, a space dedicated to Asian art books in Berlin that hosts a reading room with more than 1,000 independent publications from Asia, open every weekend. Beyond offering a shared platform and laboratory for publication-related practices from Southeast and East Asia, Common Imprint also organizes talks, workshops, exhibitions, and other events, while working as an independent publisher in collaboration with artists from the region.
