Carol Stampone is a Brazilian writer and artist based in Bergen.

Fragile Certainties is auto-theory, or an attempt to practice escrevivência. That is, a type of auto-theory that also serves as a methodology for survival and resistance. Conceptualized by the Afro-Brazilian poet and novelist Conceição Evaristo, escrevivência  is an invitation for women of color to write themselves, instead of allowing the so-called universal subject to define them.

This book, through fiction, asks what it takes for a woman to truly write herself? Can any woman afford that? Or the place and conditions in which each woman exists will dictate whether she can become a subject? Can a woman write herself alone? Or does she need sisterhood? The focus of this work is not on finding answers, but instead, asking fundamental questions.

Carol allows her life to touch her writing and vice versa. She reflects on love, lost, sexuality, and spirituality.

Fragile certainties was published by Exilic Press, a small independent publishing house based in the Netherlands, run by Nicole des Bouvrie.
