BLOW UP PRESS is an independent, family-run publishing house specialising in photobooks and lens-based artist’s books that challenge perspectives and ignite thought. Guided by the motto "When the story matters," we are dedicated to publishing works that delve into complex, often taboo topics that reflect the pressing challenges of our world. Our mission is to inspire readers to see beyond the surface and engage deeply with the stories we present.

Founded in 2012, we began as an online publisher offering PDF magazines. By 2016, driven by reader demand, we transitioned to print, and in 2017, expanded into photo and art books. Today, books are at the heart of everything we do. Each one is treated as a unique constellation, carefully crafted to honor both the story and the artist behind it.

At BLOW UP PRESS, the creation of a book is a collaborative journey. From editing and design to production and distribution, we immerse ourselves in every stage of the process, ensuring every detail resonates with the artist’s vision. Even for incomplete projects, we provide guidance, shaping raw concepts into finished works of art. This hands-on approach has earned us a reputation for producing books described as “holistic” - where every element, from the images to the materials, works in harmony.

In 2020, we launched the BUP Book Award, a competition that transforms outstanding photography-based projects into published books. The award offers emerging and lesser-known artists the chance to bring their vision to life with our full support, from design to global distribution.

Run by co-founders Aneta Kowalczyk and Grzegorz Kosmala, BLOW UP PRESS embodies the spirit of small press publishing. Aneta oversees the visual and tactile elements, from photo editing to design and printing, while Grzegorz manages text editing, operations, and external representation. Together, they bring unparalleled dedication and craftsmanship to every project, often working remotely and embracing a nomadic lifestyle.

For us, the story is paramount. We aren’t concerned with technical perfection or artistic fame - we care about the narrative’s power to move, question, and illuminate. Every book we publish is a testament to our commitment to meaningful storytelling, designed to be treasured and remembered.
